DEDHAM, MASS. (WHDH) - 45-year-old Karen Read sat there listening as her attorney Alan Jackson laid out his case for acquittal in the 2022 death of Boston police officer John O’Keefe. “All you need to know is that the commonwealth failed,” said Jackson. “They failed to prove the essence of their case that John was even hit by a car to begin with.”The Read team abandoned its third party culprit defense. It’s not blaming someone else for John O’Keefe’s untimely death.

DEDHAM, MASS. (WHDH) - Jurors were not present in court Thursday as attorneys in the Karen Read retrial worked out the jury rules and instructions ahead of Friday’s closing arguments. Read’s defense team rested its case Wednesday and the prosecution chose not to call any rebuttal witnesses. Read, 45, is accused of killing Boston police officer O’Keefe, her boyfriend, by backing into him with her car after a night of drinking and leaving him to die in the snow in January 2022.

DEDHAM, MASS. (WHDH) - The judge in the Karen Read murder retrial once again rejected the defense’s request for a mistrial Monday. Read and her defense team arrived at Norfolk District Court in Dedham, marking the beginning of a new week of testimony. Good morning - NOT from Dedham. I’m on vacation this week. Day two of deliberations in the #KarenReadTrial begin around 9. Follow @7News and @dhausleon7 for the latest. If it’s like last year this will still be going on when I return.

Jury deliberations have ended for the day. #KarenReadTrial

Here is the verdict slip for count two, OUI manslaughter, which has the lesser included offenses. David Yannetti objected to these saying there are too many places to check ‘guilty’ and they’re not clear enough. #karenreadtrial https://t.co/l9w6DjtwQu
