GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Artificial intelligence is quickly transforming our world, but it’s also producing a growing environmental footprint. Data centers need massive amounts of energy to run and millions of gallons of clean water to keep the computers cool. According to the United Nations Regional Information Centre for Western Europe, a single ChatGPT search consumes 10 times more energy than a Google search. The reason for the energy consumption has to do with how AI works.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — American lawn landscape is diversifying in a big way in recent years, with lawn alternatives becoming increasingly popular. The main reason homeowners are switching from sod is the many benefits other groundcover plants provide. Many lawn alternatives do not require watering, mowing or fertilizer, and can still offer the clean look homeowners prefer with sod. Some groundcover alternatives can even thrive in yards that have struggled to grow classic grass.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A large storm system will bring several chances of rain and storms tonight through Friday evening for West Michigan, some of which could be strong. A round of strong storms is expected after midnight through the early morning hours. It is possible this line of storms won’t fully cover all of West Michigan. Currently the greater threat for Friday morning’s storms will be north of I-94. It looks like a wet commute Friday morning for most.
