Ten Israelis have been wounded after a terrorist opened fire at a military checkpoint near the village of Tayasir in the West Bank this morning. Two of those injured remain in critical condition in hospital after the army post was stormed by a gunman wearing a green combat vest.

An impossible Judean date palm grows in Kibbutz Ketura of the Arava Valley, deep in the Negev Desert. Named Methuselah, the palm grew from 2,000-year-old seed excavated from the ancient fortress of Masada overlooking the Dead Sea. Arching over 11 feet high, Methuselah is a botanical miracle in a desert oasis, marking the reincarnation of a long-extinct biblical tree to Israel. The date palm isn’t the only miracle in Ketura.

Major General (reserve) Eyal Zamir has been designated to replace Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi as the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) chief of staff, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz announced on Saturday night. Zamir, 59, is the current director general of Israel’s Defence Ministry and will assume his new post on March 6. He has previously served as deputy chief of staff (2018 to 2021), and before that, he led the Southern Command from 2015 to 2018.
