MPs, including a former home secretary, have told the JC that the sentencing of Daniel Khalife on Monday – for spying and escaping prison – show the need to take the threat posed by Iran to the UK seriously. The 23-year-old former soldier escaped from HMP Wandsworth in south-west London in September 2023 by clinging to the underside of a food delivery truck, sparking a city-wide manhunt.

In the past, Rabbi Shmuly Yanklowitz would walk into American progressive settings feeling like everyone was on the same page. When he attended synagogue, he figured everyone held pretty much similar values. “I rarely experience that anywhere now,” says Yanklowitz, a modern Orthodox Jew and a liberal Zionist who’s concerned with racial justice, immigrant rights, women's rights, climate change, and other progressive causes. “My politics don’t fall perfectly into partisan politics,” he said.

Soon after my first child was born six years ago, I sat in a doctor’s office with my wife and watched as the nurse couldn’t look me in the eyes. “Any concerns?” she said, asking my wife a list of question even though I made it clear I was the main caretaker who’d be attending doctor’s appointments. Six years and two kids later, it’s still happening. “How long’s he been sick?” a doctor recently said to my wife, even though I was the parent at the previous four doctor’s appointments.

More than 900 Jewish camp professionals joined together on Monday to say Shehecheyanu. The prayer, signifying special occasions, marked a historical partnership between the Foundation for Jewish Camp (FJC) and Harold Grinspoon Foundation’s JCamp 180 as the organizations partnered for a joint, four-day gathering, the Jewish Camp Summit, which ended on Wednesday. In previous years, JCamp 180 held its annual conference in the fall, while FJC held a biannual conference in late winter or early spring.
