RUCKERSVILLE, Va. — Ralph Morton is a third-generation farmer in Virginia’s Greene County. His family are the only Black farmers in the area. Both Morton’s father and grandfather experienced discrimination while trying to secure loans from the USDA’s Farm Service Agency, an experience that Black farmers across the country still deal with. Last year, 27 percent of complaints filed against the USDA were because of race-based discrimination against Black and African American farmers.

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden approved a stopgap spending bill on Friday, preventing a partial government shutdown from taking place this month. The bill extends the budget deadline to March 1 and March 8, giving Congress until then to reach an agreement. The vote follows weeks of debate, with certain hard-lined House Republicans blaming Speaker Mike Johnson for conducting bipartisan negotiations, believing that a shutdown should be endured until a final budget decision is made.

WASHINGTON – Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.) has negotiated a deal with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) that would extend government funding until March. Minocqua Brewing Company permit revoked

The Oneida County Planning and Development Committee voted to revoke the permit that allows the Minocqua Brewing Company to serve alcohol earlier today. This decision comes after the original meeting to discuss this issue was suspended last week, for what the committee reasoned were off-topic comments from owner Kirk Bangstad. “I'm arguing that the reasons being used to shut my business down today should be nullified,” said Bangstad when speaking to the committee.
Brambrough sentenced to six months in prison

A Rhinelander man is sentenced to 6 months in prison for the unsafe building of their own building while undergoing a mental health crisis. Chad Brambrough burned down his family home in an attempt to end his life last March. He is now serving a six month prison sentence. Brambrough suffers from severe mental health and addiction issues, which he claims is a result of trauma created in his childhood and from his time spent in the military.
