Tasmanian salmon farms produce 6 times more pollution each year than Tasmania’s entire sewageSalmon farms have been on the nose in Tasmania recently, but for those who aren’t located downwind of one, this comparison might help you understand just how polluting salmon farming can be. Salmon farming and human sewage treatment both produce nitrogen, which is an important factor in the health of waterways.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s letter to the Tasmanian salmon industry, promising new federal environmental laws to protect the foreign-owned businesses, sets a dangerous precedent and undermines government process. Changes to Australian law should come from public debate and democratic will, not deals to appease corporate interests ahead of an election.

The closer you live to the city and the richer your post code, the more likely you are to have a longer life. Australians like to think that we live in a very equal society – where because of Medicare, unlike in the USA, wherever you live you can expect the same level of healthcare. Unfortunately the data shows the lie to this belief. Healthcare should be universal, but your postcode has a big impact on life expectancy.

On Saturday 19 October, 20 organisations, including the Australia Institute, published an open letter calling on the Rockcliff Government to acknowledge the damning findings from Tasmania’s 2024 State of the Environment Report and commit to reversing the state’s environmental declines. The Australia Institute led the push for the publication of the report in 2022. It has been a month since the 2024 report was published and yet there has been no official response from Tasmania’s Government.

Around 80% of Australia’s gas is exported overseas. Our research shows the gas corporations have paid ZERO royalties on over half (56%) of all gas exports. In fact, the government collects more revenue from HECS than it does from the Petroleum Resource Rent Tax. Chip in today and fund the research to ensure the gas industry pays its fair share. $30/mo $50/mo $100/mo $50 $100 $500 I'd like to donate a different amount.

Can we all just pick a place and stick with it, is it threads or bluesky?!

Has anyone had a tongue tie cut as an adult? If so can you recommend anywhere please? (Years of TMJ pain, teeth grinding and even an opp to file down my actual jaw bone… and I finally find out that I have a posterior tongue tie that’s likely causing it all!)
