Canyon Del Oro High School senior Jordan Crawford got a late start to playing tennis. While many begin playing tennis around 6, or even younger, Crawford didn’t officially pick up a racket until she was 11. But Crawford doesn’t see her late start as a disadvantage. Instead, she sees it as something of an advantage. “I never felt burnt out or tired of the sport, which I really am grateful for,” she said.

Arizona’s former guard and team leader in 3-point shooting, Lauryn Swann, has committed to Rutgers University. The move was first reported by On3Sports’ Talia Goodman. Swann, who only played one year with the Wildcats as a freshman, will have three years of eligibility remaining. No. 11 Arizona men’s tennis defeated No. 18 University of Central Florida with a 4-1 win at the Big 12 Tennis Championship in Waco, Texas, on Sunday. Arizona tennis star Colton Smith was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Championship after finishing with a 4-2 combined record at the championship, including two wins in the final against UCF, according to the Big 12.

Pima Community College’s track and field team returned to Tucson this week with a new school record and a few national qualifying times after competing in La Jolla, California, last weekend. At the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego, Pima freshman Taylor Brown set a school record in the 400 meters with a time of 46.65 seconds. The previous record was held by Juan Duarte in 2001 with a time of 47.09 seconds, according to a press release from Pima Athletics.
