ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (KGUN) — The Oro Valley town council chambers were once again packed with a sea of blue shirts, all of them supporting a pay raise for Oro Valley Police Department officers and sergeants. On Wednesday the mayor and town council unanimously voted to give them a pay raise after delaying the vote twice. on pay on May 7 and then decided to take off an agenda item regarding the issue on May 21.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — Every time Allison Bradford comes back to the Hedrick Acres neighborhood, she thinks back to her time living there for 27 years. She recently moved about two months ago after homeless people took over the Navajo Wash near her house. “My home was no longer my sanctuary. I had no sense of security anymore,” Bradford said. “I was heartbroken to sell my house. I loved my house.”Since about 2019, she said homeless encampments in the wash made her feel unsafe.

There’s a lot of work that goes into assessing fire damage after a wildfire sweeps through an area. The Burned Area Emergency Response team, also known as the BAER team, assess the area and how fire damage could affect future disasters. “In the case of the Cody Fire, the burn severity was moderate to minimal,” Matthew Garcia said. Garcia is the public information officer representing the Coronado National Forest and Santa Catalina Ranger District.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — Last year there was a lot of tension in the administration building at the Mescal-J6 Fire District during board meetings. Several community members and board members walked out of one meeting last summer. During other meetings, several board members resigned. Last year their former fire chief resigned. On his last day, two board members resigned and five days later another board member resigned. Ed Nied is their new fire chief who started in August.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — Some Eastside residents are without water Wednesday afternoon after a water main break in the neighborhood southeast of East Speedway Boulevard and North Pantano Road, according to Tucson Water. The water flowed through neighborhood streets and onto Speedway beginning around early afternoon. Some customers were left without water as a result.
