For more than 20 years, Dr. Matthew Blondin and Audrey Blondin have taken a trip to Central America. Thet go to Nicaragua, spending a week in the coastal town of San Juan del Sur. They visit each year on behalf of VOSH-CT, a charity founded by Matthew Blondin, anl optometrist, providing eyeglasses, exams and treatments to thousands of underinsured Nicaraguans. This year, the VOSH-CT mission trip provided care to 3,937 people over four days.

TORRINGTON — Solar energy can help a municipality lower its energy bills, if officials sign on to receive credits from that generated power. For a solar project proposed in Torrington, the owners say they offered the credits to the city but were turned down. Lodestar Energy, an Avon-based company, has applied for permits to build a solar farm on Lovers Lane in Torrington. According to the application, the project is planned for a 54-acre property that is a mix of forest and fields.

Polls have closed across the state on Election Day, and already one winner is clear. Jay Case, the incumbent Republican for the 63rd House District, ran unopposed in Tuesday's election for his seventh term representing the district, which serves Winsted and Colebrook, along with part of Torrington. Numbered results for his race are not yet available.
