    GALVESTON A event held Saturday to benefit the Galveston Island Humane Society drew a large crowd and a huge donation and resulted in at least a few of the island's "bus dogs" being adopted.     Frances Moody Buzbee and her husband, attorney Toney Buzbee, hosted the event on the grounds of Moody Mansion to help the humane society shelter weather a flood of dogs abandoned in a school bus at Galveston Island State Park.

    GALVESTONMore than 100 people participated in a Unite & Resist Protest March on Saturday during International Women’s Day. The crowd assembled near McGuire-Dent Recreation Center, 2222 28th St., where marchers held signs stating “Women’s rights are human rights,” “Legal abortions save lives” and “I am woman, watch me vote.”Other signs stated support for Ukraine or denounced the actions of President Donald Trump and one pair held a large American flag upside down, which is a symbol of distress.

    One is smaller and flat-edged and native to the Sonoran Desert. The other is larger, rounder and invasive, with the potential to wreck Arizonan agriculture and wildlife. The former is a javelina (Pecari tajacu) and the latter is the invasive feral hog. Although sometimes confused for one another, they are two entirely separate animals. Javelinas are technically not pigs, as they are classified as peccary.
