Post Falls Superintendent Dena Naccarato wants to know if any of her constituents missed a day of work so far this year. Maybe they had a stomach bug, had to go to the dentist or attend a friend’s wedding. For Naccarato, student absences don’t just mean make-up work, they create budget implications. Idaho funds schools on an average daily attendance model. In Post Falls, North Idaho’s largest school district, on a four-day school week, each absence costs $46, Naccarato said.

The Idaho Commission for Libraries will continue to receive federal funding for now, State Librarian Stephanie Bailey-White said Tuesday. Earlier this month, the commission’s board approved using alternative funds to pay staff in anticipation of losing federal funding, as similar federal grants were abruptly terminated.

Five Idaho international students, who had previously lost their student visas or supporting documents, had their legal status restored over the weekend, according to college and university officials. The restorations are a result of a shift in the Trump administration's approach to terminating students' legal status, announced Friday amidst a wave of lawsuits, the New York Times reported.
