    IOWA (KWWL) -- The Iowa Legislature has set its proposed SSA rate for the next school year at two percent. The bill now goes to Governor Kim Reynolds for signage. The 2% increase would raise per-pupil funding by around $160 per student. Earlier in the session, the Iowa House argued for a 2.25% increase for SSA funding, but ultimately passed the 2% increase during this afternoon's debate, in a 60 to 36 vote. It's the third decrease in a row to the rate.

    CHARLES CITY, Iowa - Residents are now able to return home, after a large fire broke out at an industrial site Sunday night. The Charles City Fire Department (CCFD) says it responded to a 911 call around 8:40 pm about heavy smoke coming from a building in the 2300 block of Old Highway Road. CCRD says crews arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke and flames pouring from Hawkeye Mold and Design Company.

    WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) -- On Sager Avenue and Scheerer Street, residents woke up to a blast around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, as a result of a house explosion. One man has died from the explosion. It's unclear if he was the only resident of the home yet as authorities have not identified him. Officials have confirmed a dog survived the explosion, as it was in a shed detached from the home.

    WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) -- Thousands of immigrants in Waterloo are at-risk for deportation, after the Trump administration announced it will revoke lawful status for those who entered the country under Humanitarian Parole. The Biden Administration era order allowed migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Cuba to enter the country with two-year work permits. The legal status will now expire April 24th.

The bill requires all public school districts to adopt a policy to restrict personal electronic use during instruction time- such as cell phones, tablets, and more.
