    WATERLOO — Hawkeye Community College's board of trustees Tuesday approved an $89.6 million budget for 2025-26, including an 8.1% increase in property tax askings. A total of $15.04 million in property and utility replacement taxes is expected to be collected in the college’s 10-county service area during the fiscal year starting July 1. That is $1.13 million more than was estimated for the current year.

    WATERLOO — Millions of dollars in funding for job training was approved Tuesday by the Hawkeye Community College board of trustees. Trustees approved issuing $4.39 million in industrial new jobs training certificates to Piper Sandler & Co. of Minneapolis, one of three bidders. The bid has a true interest rate of 4.68%, meaning the college will repay the certificates at an additional cost of $1.14 million over 10 years.

    WATERLOO — Things are looking up this spring at Hawkeye Community College. Enrollment for spring semester is at 5,115, an increase of 434 students or 9.27% from a year ago. Nina Grant, vice president of student affairs, said it is the “first time that we were over 5,000 students” since 2020. She noted the student count that year took place just before COVID-19 hit Iowa.
