After several months of discussion and a public hearing, the Minnetrista City Council approved the 2025 street assessments for Pine Circle, the Trillium Area, and Wind Ridge Circle at its March 17 meeting. The council also awarded a $986,591 contract to Asphalt Surface Technologies Corporation of St. Cloud, Minn., to complete the work, and approved Task Order 8 with the city’s engineering firm, WSB, for construction administration services estimated at approximately $129,000.

The Mound City Council approved plans and authorized bids for the downtown sidewalk improvement project at its March 25 meeting, which will replace deteriorated sidewalks along Shoreline Drive (CSAH 15). Brian Simmons, senior city engineer, explained that the project aims to address damaged sidewalks, uneven surfaces, and improper slopes, while upgrading pedestrian ramps to meet current standards. The project is divided into two areas based on the extent of the damage.

Last year, the Minnesota Legislature passed a law requiring all school districts and charter schools across the state to establish a policy on student cell phone use by March 15, 2025. Now, lawmakers are weighing a statewide ban on cell phones in schools altogether. A new bipartisan bill introduced in the Senate would require, starting with the 2026–2027 school year, a complete ban on cell phones and smartwatches for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
