A classic sailing trawler has returned to Brixham for the first time since a million-pound refit carrying the ashes of a former skipper. Colin Mawbey, who was also chairman of trustees, sailed the Vigilance BM76 to Plymouth for major repairs in 2022 and hoped to be at the helm when it returned to Brixham. He was unable to fulfil his wish as he died last year, but his family were able to arrange for his ashes to be on board when the 76ft sailing boat made the trip on Tuesday.

The A388 near Holsworthy has been shut in both directions due to a 'police incident'. Roads monitoring service Inrix reported the incident at 9.25am. Initially the road between Holsworthy and Clawton was described as partially blocked but has now been fully closed. Inrix said: "A388 in both directions closed, slow traffic due to police incident between Winterland Lane (Whimble) and the Clawton turn off (Clawton)." A shoplifting gang who filled 857 trollies with £130,000 worth of stolen goods handed themselves in - after police wrote them all an ultimatum letter. The six thieves targeted dozens of shops and supermarkets across Cornwall, Somerset, Suffolk and Surrey between January 2022 and February 2024. CCTV footage captured them stuffing trollies to the brim with items - and brazenly leaving the stores after making no attempt to pay.

A crash has partially blocked a main road in Somerset this morning. The A39 at Cannington near Bridgwater is experiencing slow traffic. Roads monitoring service Inrix reports that traffic is slow on the A39 westbound at Brymore Way due to an 'accident'. The nature of the accident is not yet known.
