Nearly 50 life-saving defibrillators have been installed in the community and registered through the Bundaberg Defib Hero Community Activation program since the launch 12 months ago. In November 2023 Bundaberg Regional Council became the first region in Australia to launch the Defib Hero program with Heart 180 founder Guy Leech to spur on uptake of installation and registration of defibs in the community.

A four-year community roadmap has been set as Bundaberg Regional Council adopted its Community Development Strategy 2024-2028. The Community Development Strategy 2024-2028 is the result of extensive community consultation, research and collaboration and it embodies a shared vision for a sustainable and inclusive region. Bundaberg Mayor Helen Blackburn said a key pillar of the Community Development Strategy was capacity building and resilience.

Designed to bring families and friends together, the screenings will take place in Bundaberg, Woodgate and Childers, as part of Council’s annual Christmas program. The popular family films Elf, The Grinch and The Santa Claus will capture the essence of the holiday season with the charm of a classic drive-in experience.

A new safety treatment known as the Rural Intersection Activated Warning System (RIAWS) will soon be installed at the intersection of Windermere and Hummock Roads to reduce the risk of severe accidents. The RIAWS will detect when a vehicle on Hummock Road is approaching or standing at the intersection and activate warning signs for drivers on Windermere Road. The installation of the warning system signage will be the first use of this technology in Queensland.
