Queensland Police have arrested and charged a man after a fatal traffic incident involving a cyclist in the state's Wide Bay region. Police say the 34-year-old cyclist was riding in the Bundaberg suburb of Millbank along Takalvan Street about 8pm on Tuesday. It is alleged that the cyclist, a Bundaberg man, was struck by a car which was driven away. The cyclist died at the scene.

Three women have been assessed by paramedics after being bitten by dingoes on K'gari just days before the Easter school holidays begin. A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said the women, aged in their 20s, were on a tour of the heritage-listed island when they were attacked at around 2:30pm on Tuesday. The spokesperson was unable to confirm the exact number of dingoes involved in the incident or the precise location of where it occurred.

A coking coal mine on "prime agricultural land" is unlikely to go ahead after the Queensland government found it was "not in the public interest". Queensland's Attorney-General Deb Frecklington announced the decision in Bundaberg on Tuesday morning.
