On Dec. 4, Cal Poly’s Office of Institutional Research and Office of Data Management hosted a Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) Summit. According to the Cal Poly Report, the goal of the SEM Summit was to inform the campus community, specifically staff, about new strategic enrollment initiatives and to answer questions. Terrance Harris, the Vice President of Strategic Enrollment Management, believes the SEM Summit is a great collaboration and learning opportunity.

On Nov. 15, the San Luis Obispo Rotary Club hosted an event called ‘Enchanted Evening at the Dallidet.’ SLO Rotary partnered up with nine different nonprofit organizations to create this fundraising event, which featured a holiday tree auction. This event also had live music, festive food and drink, tours of the adobe and a wine grab. In the wine grab, people paid $40 for a bottle of wine, then picked an ornament which had a number on it.

On Nov. 22, Cal Poly Farms hosted an Olive U-Pick where community members could come to Cal Poly and pick their own olives. This was a one day only event put on by the orchard and vegetable enterprise class at Cal Poly. Plant science sophomore Jack Gillio was in the class and helped out at the U-Pick. “There are arbequinas and chiquititas,” he said.

Suicide prevention and awareness is a prevelant topic in the San Luis Obispo community. One campus organization at Cal Poly doesn’t want to just raise awareness around suicide prevention, they want to make a notable difference. Every year the Sigma Pi fraternity at Cal Poly puts on the “Hope Rising” concert, a local event with live music to support mental health and suicide prevention.

The Cal Poly Men’s Soccer team had been unable to clinch a regular season conference title since their inception into the NCAA in 1967. But this season, program history was made. For the first time ever, Cal Poly Men’s Soccer took first place in the Big West Regular Season rankings. The team finished 7-4-7 overall and 4-1-4 in the Big West, which is one of their most dominant records in over ten years.
