WARWICK – Scituate High senior Austin Simas, who helped lead his school’s undefeated boys’ soccer team to the Division III championship last fall, will receive one of the Rhode Island Interscholastic League’s biggest honors, the RIIL Male Student-Athlete of the Year Award, at the 13th annual RIIL Awards Breakfast next Wednesday, April 23, at 9 a.m. at the Quonset “O” Club in North Kingstown.

NORTH PROVIDENCE – Most high school teams wouldn’t treat a 3-0 start as a big deal, but for North Providence, its season-opening three-game win streak to its Division II baseball season has been something to savor. For the first time since 2012, NP headed into its school vacation week with an unbeaten record, and last Wednesday afternoon, the good times continued for the Cougars as they kicked off a five-game homestand with a 7-0 victory over neighboring rival Johnston.

PROVIDENCE – The Pawtucket Schools baseball team kicked off one of its biggest weeks of its Division III season with a memorable performance on the mound. Starting pitcher Jeremy Torres and relievers Claudio Martinez and Jaiden Mills teamed up to pitch a no-hitter on a splendid afternoon for baseball on Monday at Mount Pleasant High. The trio struck out 11 batters to help Pawtucket pick up an 8-3 victory that raised its record to 4-0.
