May 28-After dealing with injuries and ineffectiveness last year, San Francisco 49ers punter Mitch Wishnowsky could be facing unemployment. The 49ers will make Wishnowsky compete for the job he's had since 2019 by battling Thomas Morstead, 39, who ranks 11th in NFL history in gross punting average (46.8) and has strong ties to new special teams coordinator Brant Boyer. Morstead wrote "Grateful is an understatement! #49ers" on social media Wednesday morning along with a selfie at Levi's Stadium.

May 27-The San Francisco 49ers often use history as their guide when it comes to the NFL draft. If a college prospect has traits that are strikingly similar to one of the 49ers' current or past players, it's viewed as a benefit that can help eliminate guesswork. For example, how will a potential draft pick that played in a 3-4 defense in college fit in the 49ers' 4-3 scheme? The past can help inform the 49ers' projections and evaluations during the pre-draft process.

The college coaches of NFL draft picks almost always gush about their former pupils. And two of the men who mentored San Francisco 49ers rookie cornerback Upton Stout of North Shore at Western Kentucky are no different.

RT @Eric_Branch: #49ers' 2025 schedule: A back-to-back road opening, a really late bye week, plenty of 10 a.m. starts and lots of inexperie…

In a five-game stretch from Weeks 12-17, the #49ers will face the Panthers, Browns, Titans, Colts and Bears, all teams with a young unproven starting QB or a muddled starting-QB situation. Those five teams had a combined 24-61 record last season.
