Checkered Flag Audi is building a showroom on the 2.54-acre site at 5200 Virginia Beach Boulevard. The overall building footprint is expected to be 33,273 square feet, with a 1,105-square-foot canopy in the rear of the building for the cleaning and prepping of vehicles, according to city planning documents. At its tallest point, the building will be just over 25 feet in height. Plans call for a total of 92 parking spaces, with 39 designated for display area spaces.

Nearly 1,200 pieces of trash were recently collected from one of the most remote and pristine beaches in the area. Most disturbing, about 92% of the items were plastic, which birds, fish and turtles often mistake for food, often leading to health issues and death. Two dozen volunteers from Lynnhaven Dive Center and Double Barrel Medical cleaned a one-mile stretch of Fisherman Island Sept. 17, in recognition of International Coastal Cleanup Day.

First Class Event Rentals has leased 1,100 square feet in the shopping center at the corner of Bonney Road and Prescott Avenue. The business will host baby showers, pop-up shops, business meetings and birthday parties, according to city planning documents. In 1823, James Monroe was president of the U.S., and modern-day Virginia Beach was still 140 years in the future. It was also the year Princess Anne County celebrated the opening of a new courthouse at the corner of present-day Princess Anne and North Landing roads.
