Richmond’s City Council has approved a permit to redevelop the building that houses the Westhampton Pastry Shop at the intersection of Patterson and Libbie avenues in the city’s West End. The bakery opened in the one-story building at 5728 Patterson Ave. in 1952. Now, the landlord plans to replace it with a four-story building with commercial space on the ground floor and offices above. It’s unclear what will happen to the Westhampton Pastry Shop.

VCU has partnered with a California-based event management company, ASM Global to manage the facility. The university expects to spend $5 million compensating its athletes beginning next year. Virginia Commonwealth University is withholding the degrees of three students who helped organize a gathering in support of Palestine on campus last month that ended in a student’s arrest. The three students will be able to participate in graduation events this weekend, but the university will not officially confer their degrees until it has resolved the disciplinary process. Sereen Haddad, one of the affected students, said she will walk across the graduation stage in protest.
