Calvin George Kemp is celebrating his 102nd birthday today. (Courtesy of the family) Family, friends, and churchgoers gathered in Decatur over the weekend to help a World War II veteran celebrate his 102nd birthday. Calvin George Kemp was born at Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital on June 2, 1923, and refers to himself as a "Grady Baby." What we know: Kemp served in the Navy during World War II, beginning in 1943 and returning to Atlanta in 1946. "I always got involved," Kemp said.

Armed with a paint sprayer and a mission to beautify his city, Craig Galanos is taking a grassroots approach to tackling graffiti across Atlanta, one wall at a time. He is the founder of the Atlanta Beautification Committee, a volunteer nonprofit he launched with a friend to combat illegal tagging. From utility poles on Piedmont Road to electrical boxes, stop signs, overpasses, and retaining walls, Galanos has covered up tags all over the city.

What was meant to be a somber Mother’s Day visit to honor loved ones became a distressing ordeal for an Atlanta woman after someone broke into her car and stole her belongings while she visited gravesites at Lincoln Cemetery. Beverly Frazier said she and her family were paying respects to her mother, sisters, and her daughter’s best friend when the theft occurred. What they're saying: "We let our guard down and got out of the car without locking it or taking our purses," Frazier said.
