HANSVILLE, Wash. — Joe St. Clair was working and traveling in South America when he was kidnapped and put in a Venezuelan prison. He was last heard from in November. Now, his parents don't know where his is or if he is even alive. The 33-year-old St. Clair is a highly decorated Air Force veteran with four tours in Afghanistan. His family is incredibly proud, but that pride is now overshadowed by pain. "We're worried about him," said Joe's father, Scott, at their home in North Kitsap.

That's the highest number in 33 years, up from 743 in 2022 and the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) attributes largely to speed. "There's so much research that shows speed causes more collisions," said WSDOT spokesperson Amy Moreno.

The family moved from Everett to the small Snohomish County city of Sultan to escape crime and the rising cost of living. But the cost of living continues its relentless pursuit. The Randalls spend at least $1200 a month on groceries and have to pinch every penny. "Without the food bank it would be crippling," said Randall.

Nothing says I love you like buying cheap, last-minute flowers from the grocery store on your way home from work.
