A new antiques fair is being launched this weekend and it’s a family affair. Rodney Weeks and his daughter Nicola are bringing the Bedford Antiques Fair to King’s House on Ampthill Road this Friday, 9 and Saturday, 10 May, with 45 dealers selling their wares. Rodney has over 25 years’ experience in the antiques world and ran many events with his late wife, Sandra.

A new social history exhibition has opened at the Panacea Museum this month, exploring the unseen story of this remarkable society and World War II. The Society was enthusiastic about their commitment to the local war effort, provided it did not affect any properties that backed onto their Garden of Eden, particularly ‘Castleside’, the property the Society had prepared for the 24 Bishops to open Joanna Southcott’s Box.

One year on from his election, Bedfordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, John Tizard, has set out the latest phase of his Police and Crime Plan. Bedford College band The Deities go from open mic night to releasing their debut EP

A Bedford band are performing at the Cellar Bar next week, celebrating that they have gone from performing at the venue’s Under 18’s Open Mic Night to launching their debut EP this month. The Deities are composed of four Bedford College music students, “combining original rock sounds with ethereal vocals”. They began playing together at the Cellar Bar’s monthly under-18s open mic night and on Tuesday (6 May), will be taking to the same stage to celebrate the launch of their debut EP.

Printmaking at the Higgins this May half term

Four local artists are hosting children’s printmaking workshops at the Higgins Bedford during May half term, inspired by the museum’s forthcoming exhibition. Katie Allen, Paige Denham, Lisa Tilley, and Anne-Marie Abbate will run the Print It events from 27 to 30 May, taking inspiration from Edward Bawden Printmaker, the exhibition that opens on Saturday, 24 May.

How a love for Bedford's pigeons grew into an art project about migration

A new public art trail featuring 100 decorated pigeons has taken roost in Bedford, celebrating the town’s stories of migration and settlement. Hometown Birds launched on Saturday (19 April). It was created by Permission2, run by artists Anne Marie Abbate and Sara Turner and the artists hope that residents and visitors will flock to the bus station, Church Arcade, and Pigeon Square/Church Square to spot as many of the 100 unique birds as they can.
