House Bill 437 is gaining support in Montgomery, including from Gov. Kay Ivey, following the shark attack of Lulu Gribbin of Mountain Brook. Gribbin lost a leg and part of her arm last summer when she and a friend were attacked while vacationing in Florida.

Mobile Baykeepers are concerned after multiple testing sites along Alabama’s Gulf Coast showed high bacteria levels a week after recorded rainfall. In 13 out of 16 sites tested, results showed bacteria levels over the EPA threshold. Baykeepers test weekly for Enterococcus and E. Coli as part of its SWIM (swim where it’s monitored) program. The highest bacteria levels were recorded in Mobile Bay at It’ll Do, Dog River at Dog River Park, Hall’s Mill at Schwarz Park and Fowl River at Bellingrath.

Nine states have joined Alabama’s voter integrity database (AVID), started by Secretary of State Wes Allen to replace the controversial Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC). Allen announced that Ohio is the latest state to join by signing a memorandum of understanding. “Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose and his team have been great partners throughout the process of drafting and executing this MOU,” Allen said.

The Foley Police Department is investigating a double-fatal crash involving a pickup truck and two teens riding an electric scooter. Officers responded to the scene on County Road 65, south of Airport Road, around 9 p.m. Sunday. Brandon Alexis Esquivel Palencia, 19, of New York, and Cesar Ariel Villatoro Chavez, 18, were killed when the driver of a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado hit the scooter. Police said the driver attempted to avoid the scooter but lost control and came to a rest in the woods.
