    TULSA, Okla. — Arguably the most talked-about elephants in America right now, Billy and Tina, are in quarantine at the Tulsa Zoo and are expected to be ready to be seen by visitors by the middle of June. Billy, 40, and Tina, 59, were the two remaining Asian elephants at the Los Angeles Zoo and were transported here in May. Jordan Piha, Curator of Mammals, says the quarantine allows the elephants to ease into the new space and get cleared by veterinarians.

    BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — A young woman, a young boy, and their father are all dead after a murder-suicide in the 100 block of West Roanoke in Broken Arrow—and it turns out this family has a tragic history of mental illness incidents that have led to murder and suicide. In August of 2022, family tells 2 News Lisa Shippy, 41, took her life at the home on West Roanoke. At the time, she left behind a husband, Rodney Shippy, and her children, Logan and Alyssa.

    CATOOSA, Okla. — After 28 years, the town of Catoosa is once again operating its own dispatch and 911 call center. Money concerns and changing technology led to moving their operation under Tulsa’s call center in the late 1990s. However, Catoosa has grown a lot since then. Six full-time dispatchers are finishing up training for the new center. They’ve been in training since December. Laine Cole is one of them. “It feels nice to help people,” she said.

    TULSA, Okla. — Due to a major case backlog, Salvador Franco-Gomez, an Oklahoma City resident, had been waiting for a court hearing on his immigration status for 13 years. He has lived in the United States since he was 19 and has no criminal history. Earlier this month, Immigration and Customs Enforcement asked him to come by their office. He was put in the Tulsa County jail for potential deportation.

    TULSA, Okla. — The whereabouts of Salvador Franco-Gomez, a resident of Oklahoma City, are currently unknown. He had been sitting in David L. Moss (the Tulsa County jail), but his attorney says he never should have been there in the first place. Franco-Gomez is a family man. His wife and kids are United States citizens. One of his children has developmental disabilities. He has been here since he was 19 and has no criminal history. However, in 2012, he was pulled over for a traffic stop in New Mexico.
