    Jon Burnside helped perform a citizen’s arrest outside the Leaside Home Depot on Wednesday morning after witnessing two men trying to steal items from the retailer. And his phone has been ringing off the hook since, hearing from old and new acquaintances who were impressed by his actions. “I’ll say this, the thing that really shocked me was the outpouring of support, literally, people I hadn’t talked to in maybe 20 or 30 years,” Burnside said.

    In a move that is becoming all too familiar, it came to light earlier this year that 1,600 patients were without a family doctor seemingly overnight when a family medicine practice decided to charge a $4,995 annual fee. And it is likely to continue to happen unless something is done. It is estimated that 20 per cent of Ontario residents cannot access a family doctor for primary care.

    Over the past few months, the Toronto Parking Authority has been getting more attention than usual. Known as the Green P, the agency manages parking lots, electric charging stations, on-street parking, the city’s bike sharing program and some real estate. The TPA is a unique city agency because of the amount of money it brings into the city’s coffers. According to the agency, the TPA has contributed $1.4 billion in dividends since 2002.
