Among the thousands of federal workers who’ve either lost their jobs or taken buyouts in recent months, veterans have taken a disproportionate brunt of the force. Approximately is made up of veterans or their spouses — and some local vets say they’re already feeling the effects of federal cuts. “With my generation of veterans, I feel like we’ve gotten the s*** kicked out of us for 20 years,” said Alison Jaslow, who leads Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.

Washington Capitals’ Captain Alex Ovechkin scored goal number 895 of his career Sunday afternoon, while playing the New York Islanders. With that goal, he broke the National Hockey League’s all-time goal scoring record set by Wayne Gretzky in 1994. He tied Gretzky’s record at a home game Friday – leading to a weekend of excitement and “will he, won’t he’s” for D.C.-area sports fans.

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich is saying, “people are the collateral damage,” in response to the latest Trump administration’s firing of thousands of federal employees, including many at the Bethesda-based National Institutes of Health and the Food and Drug Administration offices in White Oak. On April 1st, thousands of Montgomery County residents were laid off by Elon Musk’s DOGE agency.
