The croquet teams from St. John's College and the neighboring U.S. Naval Academy held their annual matchup on Saturday, April 5. The competition takes over the front lawn of St. John's, which was founded in 1696 in Maryland's capital city. Thousands attended, many in fancy dress, bowler hats and sporting large "Beat Navy" or "Beat the Johnnies" pins.

Awesome Con was back at D.C.’s Convention Center this weekend for its 13th edition. The weekend-long convention celebrated nerd culture, featuring cosplaying, gaming, celebrity meet and greets, and just being yourself. On the convention floor, Tim O’Grady of McLean, Virginia dressed in a homemade costume of a guardian from the popular science-fiction video game Destiny 2. He said it took him about a week and $150 to construct.

The sound of its destruction was incessant. Removing the mural with its big yellow letters will take more than a quick repaint – it’s a weeks long process. The first steps: summoning the police to ensure the process goes on without any disruption – then removing the bollards. On day one – March 10 – you could still see the letters under the construction workers as they drilled away over ‘MATTER,’ and laid the bollards down one by one. By the morning of day two, ‘MATTER’ had become a pile of rubble.
