    The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office swore in three new deputies for the Corrections Division on Monday. Deputies Drew Despain, Jacob Adaya, and Ryan Navarro will attend an eight-week corrections training program at the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office. After that, they will complete an eleven-week field training program. The Sheriff’s Office says all three new deputies hold degrees in criminal justice. Deputy Despain was a participant in the Kendall County Youth Academy in 2022.

    The Oswego High School girls softball team is the state’s 4A champion. Oswego District 308 says it’s the first state title in the program’s history. The Panthers defeated Barrington 4 to 1 on Saturday in Peoria to claim the title. The team returned home in style, taking part in Sunday’s PrairieFest Parade. A celebration and award ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the Oswego High School Main Gym, Door 35.

    Dr. Jeff Schutt of Yorkville has been named Kendall County’s Citizen of the Year. Schutt was recognized at Tuesday’s Kendall County Board meeting—though he says no one told him what was going on ahead of time. "They told me it was just for the high school team that won regionals, and we've been through that, with the other teams in the past," Schutt said. "So, I was quite surprised when I came in, and I thought something was odd when my oldest son was her, and it's like, "what is he doing"?

    Yorkville City Hall is considering another water rate hike as part of a gradual increase to help pay for the Lake Michigan water connection project. The City Council heard a presentation on the topic last week and could vote on the increase at its next meeting on Tuesday, June 24. The proposal would raise the base rate and infrastructure fee from $49.50 to $58.27, which includes the first 350 cubic feet of water. The volumetric rate beyond that amount would increase from $5.80 to $7.28.
