At least one of the immigrants who was detained by federal officials on Tuesday was given the choice to either leave the country on his own or be deported. Chris Miller, owner of Miller’s Professionals in Oak Bluffs, said one of his workers was detained by immigration enforcers on Tuesday. Miller said he heard from eyewitnesses that federal officers had stopped his worker’s truck across from Vineyard Grocer on State Road in Tisbury and asked for papers before detaining him.

Just a fraction of Vineyard Wind’s planned offshore wind turbines are in operation despite nearly three years of construction, and the company is staying silent on what is slowing production down and when it’ll actually finish the project. First reported by the State House News Service, Vineyard Wind 1 — an offshore wind farm 15 miles south of the Island — only has four turbines providing power to the grid, which the Times confirmed with state officials.

Ahead of Memorial Day weekend, a rare May nor’easter dumped more than five inches of rain in some areas, knocked out power for more than half the Island, and high winds and seas disrupted travel plans ahead of one of the busiest weekends of the year. There were also reports of minor coastal flooding around Edgartown Harbor, Oak Bluffs Harbor and, per usual, Five Corners in Tisbury where multiple cars had to be towed after traveling through the floods.

Oak Bluffs town administrator Deborah Potter pushed back on a recent performance evaluation that called her difficult to approach, even asserting that some of the points highlighted by town officials were sexist. The Oak Bluffs select board presented its annual performance assessment of the town administrator last week, which had been compiled by the town’s human resources department. Town boards and committees could also submit reviews.
