MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines is boosting its air patrol over the West Philippine Sea with the help of 20 drones or unmanned aerial system (UAS) worth P34 million donated by Australia. Adm. Ronnie Gil Gavan, commandant of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), formally received the drones yesterday from Australian Ambassador HK Yu during a handover ceremony held in Mariveles, Bataan. Turned over to the PCG were 15 short-range UAS, four medium-range UAS and one long-range unit.

MANILA, Philippines — Five Chinese workers reportedly involved in Philippine offshore gaming operations (POGOs) were apprehended on Saturday while attempting to flee to Sabah, Malaysia through Tawi-Tawi. Ying Guanzhen, 31; Yang Jinlong, 29; Liu Xin, 28; Shen Kan, 36, and Luo Honglin, 27, were on a boat near Languyan Island in Tawi-Tawi when its engine failed, enabling Bangsamoro authorities to intercept them.

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs confiscated P320 million worth of disposable vapes and other vape products “smuggled from China” that were stored in a warehouse in Valenzuela City, the BOC said yesterday. It also seized an estimated P860 million worth of “ukay-ukay” or used clothing, handheld and desk fans, phone chargers, Chinese food items, wireless headsets, disposable syringes, office chairs, wall panels and other assorted merchandise.

MANILA, Philippines — Four historic wooden pulpit panels that were missing for four decades have been returned to the Archdiocese of Cebu by the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP). According to the CBCPNews, the Archdiocese of Cebu announced on social media that the 19th century pulpit panels were returned to the Archdiocesan Shrine of Patrocinio de Maria Santissima in Boljoon town on March 13. The CBCPNews is the official news provider of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.
