A Moray distillery's single malt whisky has taken the title as the world's best. The GlenAllachie's 12-year-old single malt whisky claimed the honour at the World Whiskies Awards after the results were announced on March 26. The distillery, based outside Aberlour, won the same title in 2021 and is the only Scottish whisky brand to take the hotly contested award since 2017. The award-winning 12-year-old single malt was matured on-site in sherry, red wine and virgin oak casks.

Plans to convert a disused loft into a conference facility on a rural estate have been given the go-ahead. Proposals to transform the building on Mains of Orton Estate near Fochabers were initially submitted by Mantell Ritchie Chartered Architects to Moray Council on November 21 last year. The loft, which dates back to the 19th century, was previously used to store grain. However, it will now be given new life as a conference facility.

An outdoor Moray childcare service has been praised by inspectors after receiving near perfect grades. Earthtime’s Forest School Nursery, based in Duffus, was the subject of an unannounced Care Inspectorate inspection in February. Inspectors use a six-point scale to determine the quality of a setting from “unsatisfactory” (1) to “excellent” (6). Earthtime has been graded as “very good” (5) across all areas. That included its quality of care, play and learning, setting, leadership and its staff.
