Massachusetts officials are making naloxone available at three state Department of Transportation facilities, as the state pushes to expand access to the overdose reversal drug. MassDOT said security guards and other employees were trained on how to recognize an overdose and administer naloxone, often purchased as the nasal spray Narcan. "We know that naloxone saves lives," said Gov. Maura Healey in a statement.

The effort to save the West Newton Cinema took a big step closer to reality this week. An anonymous donor gave $5.2 million to help purchase and renovate the 87-year-old movie theater, according to the West Newton Cinema Foundation, a nonprofit formed by residents to save the theater from demolition. The Boston Globe first reported the gift Monday.

Public health officials in Sharon said they identified a case of rare tick-borne disease: Powassan virus. The health department in the Norfolk County town south of Boston said it's the first time it's had a confirmed case. Health experts say most people exposed to the virus never feel ill. But for those who do, symptoms usually begin between one week and one month after a bite from an infected tick. And they include fever, headache, vomiting, weakness, confusion, speech difficulties and seizures.
