The body of a man who jumped from Channel Island Bridge has been found in Darwin Harbour after a frantic search and rescue effort overnight. According to NT Police Brendon Doherty, 55, voluntarily jumped into the water near Channel Island on Friday night, and was last seen “laughing and active” before being caught by strong tidal currents. Emergency services received a report at 9.42pm that Mr Doherty was unable to swim back to shore.

A state funeral will be held to honour the life and legacy of former Northern Territory politician Grant Tambling AM. The service will take place on Monday, March 17, 2025 at the Darwin Convention Centre at 10am, and members of the public are welcome to attend to pay their respects. Mr Tambling dedicated his life to public service, and was believed to be the first Australian to have served at all three levels of government.
