Phil Scott, the Climate 200-backed candidate in the Northern Territory seat of Solomon, was filmed being escorted by security guards from the stage at the Developing Northern Australia Conference held at the Darwin Convention Centre in July 2023.

A United States submarine has surfaced in Darwin, just metres from a port that has been leased to a Chinese company. The USS Minnesota has been in Australian waters for several weeks but its arrival in Darwin has raised plenty of eyebrows. The nuclear-powered submarine was docked at the HMAS Stirling near Perth last month, giving Australian personnel an opportunity to get some first-hand experience on the vessel, which is the same type of submarine Australia will receive under the AUKUS deal.

The Northern Territory government has scrapped a plan to provide 50 per cent of its electricity from renewables by 2030, saying the ambitious target would have cost taxpayers $5 billion. The former Labor government introduced the target in 2017, saying it would provide “cheaper, greener” power for Territorians. But the reality has been far different.
