Former Olympic cyclist Rohan Dennis has escaped jail time after his wife Melissa Hoskins died after being hit by a car he was driving.  A South Australia District Court judge handed down a suspended sentence on Wednesday, after Dennis pleaded guilty to an aggravated charge of creating likelihood of harm. Ms Hoskins, a fellow Olympic cyclist and mother-of-two, died in hospital shortly after being hit by the car in Adelaide's inner-north on December 30, 2023.

Another case of measles has been recorded in Victoria as the state experiences the worst outbreak of the highly infectious disease - which can cause severe illness - in 10 years. Victoria's Chief Health Officer Dr Christian McGrath said in a health alert that the latest case was an individual who recently returned from travelling in Pakistan. In recent weeks, cases have also been recorded in travellers who have arrived back from Vietnam, while some infections have been locally acquired.

Heavy rainfall is expected for millions of residents across large swathes of the east coast following days of dribs and drabs. Sky News Australia meteorologist Rob Sharpe said while the wet weather will "come and go" over the next couple of days, that will change as the weekend approaches.  "There's multiple different weather systems that will drive this wet weather in the east," Mr Sharpe said on Tuesday.

A heated elbow wrap sold at Kmart and Target stores across Australia has been recalled over the risk of skin burns. A recall notice issued on Tuesday said injuries had been reported from the Anko brand rechargeable heat pad. "The elbow wrap can overheat if it is positioned incorrectly or it is wrapped around too tight on the elbow," the notice said. "The hazards to consumers (are) risk of burns injuries to the skin, with increased risk for heat-sensitive customers.

A new mugshot of the alleged Florida State University gunman showed his face badly disfigured from being shot in the face by a cop during last month’s deadly shooting. Phoenix Ikner, 20, was booked on first-degree murder charges and related counts Monday after he was released from the hospital where he had been since the terrifying mass shooting on the Tallahassee campus on April 17.
