(OWENSBORO, KY) – National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) Erinn Williams said the certification process is not for the faint of heart. But her passion for teaching and the memory of her grandparents are what kept her going through the difficult, time-consuming process. Williams is one of 117 Kentucky teachers certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) this year, bringing the total number of NBCTs in Kentucky to 4,499.

(FRANKFORT, KY) – Numerous upcoming graduates were recognized by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) and the Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE’s) Office of Career and Technical Education for beginning their professional careers at a “Going Pro” signing day event at the Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort on April 4. The event kicked off Kentucky’s Talent Take-off, the Going Pro signing season for high schools and KCTCS colleges.

(FRANKFORT, KY) – Jennifer Montgomery, the 2025 Kentucky Teacher of the Year, encouraged members of the Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE’s) Teachers Advisory Council (TAC) to share their stories during the TAC meeting on March 11. Montgomery, who said stories have power, shared some of her own story about how she was inspired to teach in rural schools because of her childhood experience in rural Kentucky.

(FRANKFORT, KY) – Students at Second Street School (Frankfort Independent) are learning all about agriculture and food in the school’s new FoodPrints class. The school’s elementary and middle school students are getting hands-on experience with growing plants and food such as lettuce, herbs, radishes and microgreens. During a recent class session with 2nd graders, FoodPrints Teacher Dana Newland taught students about seed planting.

(WHITLEY CITY, KY) – McCreary County’s Angelina Farwick Philpot has become the second in Kentucky to attain National Certified School Social Worker (NCSSW) certification. Philpot is a mental health service provider in the McCreary County School District, assigned to Whitley City Elementary School. The NCSSW program launched in April of 2021, and applicants are required to create a portfolio that centers around the nine competencies associated with the National School Social Work Model.
