KINGSTON – The Kingston Sharing Library will host a book sale to make room for recently donated materials. The sale will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the library, 126 S. Main St. through March 9. Admission to the book sale is free. Items on sale include popular fiction, nonfiction and classic books; cookbooks; audiobooks; and award-winning and classic movies. The prices are 25 cents or 10 for $2.

A trial in the drive-by shooting outside the downtown Ottawa courthouse is on hold until attorneys are convinced the man charged is fit for trial. Anthony Brito, 30, of Ottawa, appeared Thursday in La Salle County Circuit Court for a status hearing on multiple felony counts led by attempted murder. Brito is alleged to have fired into a vehicle – no one was struck with a bullet – to silence a witness in a still-pending drug case. He could face up to 50 years.

NIU and the University of Massachusetts are scheduled to play a nonconference football game in 2024 at Huskie Stadium. The following year, the teams will once again be part of the same conference. The Mid-American Conference Council of Presidents has voted unanimously to add UMass as a full member in all sports, beginning with the 2025-26 academic season, the league announced on Thursday. The move will bring the conference’s membership to 13 institutions.
