It’s always a joy to be On the Scene at Dirk Sojka’s Slam Dunk, with Bucknell Basketball; a milestone with Slam Dunk Number 20, held Sunday, Jan. 5. No matter how frosty and blustery it is outside Sojka Pavilion, the indoor atmosphere exudes warmth, fun, and friendship. This is especially true when Slam Dunk is part of the basketball game. The Bison played Colgate, and although we weren’t sure of the outcome, the Bison beat the Raiders 66-60.

My mouth was watering as I anticipated all the “food, glorious food” at Rusty Rail in Mifflinburg for the 14th annual Cookin’ for a Cause, formerly known as Cookin’ Men. This enticing event was held on Thursday, Oct. 17. The event raised funds for the Humphreys WellSpan Center for Breast Health. I arrived early and checked in with volunteers Carol Waugher, Director of Compliance at WellSpan Evangelical and Linda Shaffer, a physical therapist. I looked around the room and saw a pink fantasyland.

Our public libraries are treasures. They offer much more than books for all ages. I was in third grade the first time I went to our library branch in Philly. I was in awe. So many books! I got lost among the stacks and thought there was no better place than Bushrod Library. I was thinking about my experience as I headed to the Public Library for Union County’s 34th Evening Among the Stacks annual auction on Saturday evening, September 21.

Sunday, Sept. 15 was a lovely day to be driving to Whispering Oaks Vineyard for Susquehanna Valley Mediation Center’s fundraising event. When I arrived, the view from the Vineyard was breathtaking. Patti Urosevich, the Mediation Center’s board president was outside greeting the guests. We chatted for a few minutes before I went inside to check in. Jen Heid was behind the check-in desk. I’ve known Jen for a very long time. She went to school with my daughter. It was so nice to see her.

I was looking forward to stepping into a magical world on Saturday night, July 27. The Victorian Fairy Garden Party, hosted by Strictly Ballet, brought the magical world to life at Greenspace in Lewisburg. As I stepped onto the Great Lawn in front of the building, I looked around in delight. Beautiful dancers were having a quick last-minute practice led by Amy Casimir, Strictly Ballet’s director.
