Nonprofits that provide English language learning programs in Washington State say demand for classes has spiked in recent years, with more demand than space for adult learning. Seattle Public Library has received a $450-million grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York to expand those programs. A University of Washington student's device that maps dangerous roads for cyclists will present his work to the Washington State Transportation Commission later this month. Graduate student Joe Breda developed the small sensor that attaches to a bike’s handlebars and maps where cars pass cyclists within 3 feet. New WA PFAS rules could affect clothes, cleanersThe Washington Department of Ecology is proposing new rules that would restrict the sale of products in the state that contain so-called “forever chemicals.”PFAS have been linked to cancer and detrimental effects to human immune and reproductive systems. They’re found in many household products and were in the firefighting foam used at Fairchild Air Force base and the Spokane International Airport that contaminated many wells on West Plains.

Washington State Patrol officials have apologized for interrupting a Pride flag raising ceremony held on the steps of Washington's legislative building in Olympia on Wednesday. The disruption lasted about two minutes. It made for a tense moment during what was otherwise a celebratory day for both the graduating cadets, and LGBTQ people and advocates who were there to celebrate Pride.
