MIAMI - More than 1,800 is how many 911 phone calls were missed in the City of Hialeah in just one month. CBS News Miami obtained documents that point to low morale, and unqualified 911 employees, all at the detriment of Hialeah residents. "Right now, I don't believe that the 911 center is currently working in an effective manner," said Hialeah City Councilman Bryan Calvo. After six weeks of pressing the city, councilman Calvo says he found the documentation he was looking for.

MIAMI - With the high temps, cars are breaking down at record levels. "I never thought my car would be affected by the heat," says Maimi-Dade resident Jonan Morales. Morales says while going to the gym, his car suddenly shut off and two days later, his other car also broke down. "We are getting calls for dead batteries 2x more than last summer," says Mark Jenkins, a AAA spokesman.

MIAMI - For the past six years, the Jewish Community Services Team has been operating the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline for Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. According to the service team, call numbers increasing. In one year, they said calls from people in distress have increased by 28 percent. The top three things' people call about are not being able to afford food, housing, going through a mental health crisis or just not having someone to talk to, employees say.

MIAMI - The conversation on how to stop an active shooter has sparked decades of controversy and debates, but a University of Miami professor says their scientifically-backed invention could help pave the way to stop an aggressor in their tracks. "About 80 percent of how we take in the world is visual," said Brian Arwari, a UM associate professor. Arwari and his team created Lightguard Security, a device that has the power of 30,000 lumens.
