Yammy’s Letchon is one of the few places in the Austin area where you can get real lechon, cooked the low-and-slow way. Judging by the crowds that gather here each weekend, that fact is no secret. This small, family-run spot near the Round Rock/Hutto border is only open four days a week, which means you’ll either have to plan your visit around their limited hours or spend a Saturday standing in line behind a dozen other people also seeking roasted pork.

Beit Rima in Duboce Triangle is loud (as is their other location in Cole Valley)—so any dramatic personal details are kept relatively confidential while you swipe pita through every square inch of the no-skips mezze sampler. Be sure to throw in the puffy za’atar-topped house bread to get the last bits of tangy lebna and the muhammara that’s smooth enough to lay a brick wall. When your group has so much to catch up on that you have a shared Notes app agenda, book a table at Kitchen Istanbul.

Any time a taqueria from Southern California opens in New York, it immediately garners a lot of attention—such is the case with Taqueria By El Prieto, a counter service spot (with a bit of seating) that hails from the San Diego area. It turns out the social media hype this place received initially isn't so warranted, but if you’re in the area and the line at nearby Los Tacos No. 1 is too long, you could do far worse than grabbing lunch here—especially if you work in the area.

A shiny South Beach steakhouse that exudes wealth and exclusivity. You’ve heard this one before. But even though The Joyce is expensive, has a doorman, and a Picasso on the wall, it follows through once you’ve taken a seat. The food is detailed, the service is skilled, and it all complements a room where you can’t help but feel a little famous. photo credit: Michael Pissariphoto credit: Michael PissariThe Joyce doesn’t feel like a restaurant.

Howoo, a new KBBQ spot in Koreatown, is entirely focused on beef—DubuHaus from the same team and in the same building locks in on tofu. The tofu is made in-house from Korean soybeans, and served in dishes like dubu jorim, in bossam with braised pork, and mushroom perilla seed soondubu. Non-tofu items on the menu include perilla oil buckwheat noodles and beef yukhoe. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists.
