Friends and family of longtime Toronto resident Maya Moreno are grieving the woman’s death after she succumbed last Saturday to complications from burns suffered in an accident in Peru. Moreno, a landscape designer, had travelled to the South American country as part of an ongoing journey to connect to her ancestral roots, according to friend Komal Bhasin.

In one corner of Little Italy, it’s out with the fancy groceries and in with more modest fare. A sign in the window of a new College Street storefront used to advertise that a Pusateri’s Fine Foods — a high-end, independent Toronto grocer — would soon open. But after Pusatari’s entered bankruptcy proceedings, the sign changed. About three weeks ago, a new No Frills opened up instead — and residents told TorontoToday they’re glad for the swap.

Worse still, these invasive blood-suckers may have an easier time evading extermination efforts this year thanks to aborted cuts by the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
