GOLIAD COUNTY, Texas - A registered sex offender in Victoria faced charges after violating multiple terms of his probation. Curtis Huerta pleaded guilty in 2023 to indecency with a child involving sexual contact and admitted to violating his probation last month. The charges stemmed from an incident involving a 13-year-old victim in Goliad County. As part of a plea deal Huerta was sentenced to 10 years of community supervision.

EL CAMPO, Texas – A man has pleaded guilty to stealing a golden tabernacle from an El Campo Catholic church, receiving a sentence of five years' probation. Thomas Graham, 54, admitted to theft of property valued at more than $2,500. Authorities said the tabernacle was stolen on Sept. 4, 2023, when 29-year-old Jesus Manuel Jaramillo of El Campo entered the church, unbolted the 130-pound tabernacle, and placed it in a vehicle. The tabernacle was later recovered in a field near El Campo.

EL CAMPO, Texas – The El Campo Independent School District has placed a $80.9 million bond proposition on the May 3 ballot. The money would fund upgrades and additions at Hutchins Elementary, the construction of new buildings at El Campo High School and updates to career and technology facilities. The high school project would also connect its 14 separate buildings to improve safety and security. Homeowners 65 and older will not see a tax increase.

BAY CITY, Texas - Authorities are investigating a house fire that killed a 63-year-old man on Sunday. The fire broke out at 1216 Austin St., where firefighters arrived to find heavy flames and smoke pouring from the structure, according to Bay City Fire Marshal Daniel Shook. Neighbors who reported the fire told authorities the man who lived in the home was still inside. Firefighters searched the residence and found him, but he had already died. The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damage.
