VICTORIA, Texas - A Victoria man accused of killing his mother has been found competent to stand trial after spending months in a state psychiatric hospital. Trevon Martinez, 21, was declared competent on May 2 by doctors at the state facility where he had been receiving treatment since being found incompetent in September due to mental illness. A bench warrant was issued shortly after the determination to transfer Martinez back to the Victoria County Jail, where he is currently being held.

VICTORIA, Texas — A Victoria man was arrested Sunday morning after a fire in the 1500 block of North Laurent Street was determined to be arson. Police were called to assist the fire department and began investigating the cause of the fire. Their investigation led to the arrest of 49-year-old Tim Cano. Cano faces charges of arson, criminal trespass and possession of a controlled substance. No injuries were reported. The case remains under investigation.

VICTORIA, Texas - Thursday around 8:40 a.m. staff members at Howell Middle School notified the school resource officer with the Victoria County Sheriff's Office (VCSO) about a possible threat involving a weapon on campus. Howell Middle School in the Victoria ISD is located at 2502 Fannin Dr. Authorities said a 13-year-old boy claimed to have a bomb in his backpack. Deputies determined the threat was not real.
