    VICTORIA, Texas - On Thursday, May 29, 2025, around 12:20 a.m., the Victoria Police Department and Victoria County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1400 block of NE Water Street to investigate a shooting. An eighteen-year-old woman from Victoria had suffered a gunshot wound. She is expected to be okay. The victim was transported to an out-of-town hospital for medical treatment. Authorities arrested Aubrey Gomez, 24, on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for theft of property.

    AUSTIN, Texas - Gov. Greg Abbott has signed the bill transferring the University of Houston-Victoria to the Texas A&M University System. Senate Bill 2361 passed the Legislature last week. It was first sponsored by State Senator Lois Kolkhorst in the Senate, and by State Representative A.J. Louderback in the House. The Texas A&M University System will formally start the transfer of UHV on June 1, with the transfer scheduled to be completed by September 1.

    HALLETTSVILLE, Texas - A Houston man faces charges in Lavaca County. Hallettsville Police stopped 39-year-old Benjamin Ojeda Jr. on a traffic violation Monday morning in the 800 block of W. Fairwinds St.A probable cause search of the vehicle found a gun, methamphetamine, cocaine, and the date rape drug. Ojeda is charged with unlawful carry of a weapon and four drug possession counts. He is in the Lavaca County jail in lieu of $76,000 bond.
