AUSTIN — The next step in the proposed transfer of the University of Houston-Victoria to the Texas A&M University System happens Friday when the Texas House is scheduled to consider House Bill 5150. The bill, filed by Rep. A.J. Louderback of District 30, would move UHV from the University of Houston System to the Texas A&M System. It is the first bill Louderback has carried to the House floor.

CUERO, Texas - A man authorities say is in the country illegally has been charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl, according to the Cuero Police Department. Police arrested 29-year-old Vivek Vinod of India on an arrest warrant. He was taken into custody in Woodville, a city in East Texas, and later transported to the DeWitt County Jail. Vinod is accused of sexually assaulting the teen on March 25 in the 2100 block of North Esplanade in Cuero.

PORT LAVACA, Texas – Two people were arrested Wednesday in Calhoun County on drug possession charges following a traffic stop on State Highway 87 near Port Lavaca, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said they had probable cause to search the vehicle, where they found 10 boxes containing THC vape pens. In total, 64 vape pens were seized, holding approximately 122 grams of THC. Both individuals were arrested and transported to the Calhoun County Jail.

VICTORIA, Texas - The Texas Education Agency released school ratings today from 2023. The ratings measure how much students are learning in each grade and whether or not they are ready for the next grade. It also shows how well a school district is preparing its students for success after high school in college, the workforce, or the military. The Industrial ISD in Vanderbilt received a A rating. The district has 1,185 students.
