Welcome Santa, Mrs. Claus, and Rudolf as they make a morning stop to bring Christmas cheer to Westmont from 9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 10 at the park district’s administrative office, 55. E. Richmond St.Families will gather around to enjoy an all-you-can-eat breakfast of pancakes, sausages, juice, coffee, milk and cookies prepared by the Westmont Lions Club. Santa will be around to talk personally with each child and see if they’ve been naughty or nice.

DeKALB – Excelleaf, DeKalb County’s first ever recreational marijuana dispensary, is ready to take consumers to new levels. The company, 305 W. Locust St., opens its doors to the public for the first time as part of a soft opening Friday. “We’re excited about that,” said Nakia McAdoo, a founding partner for Canndid Spirit Too, LLC. Canndid Spirit Too, LLC is the company that operates Excelleaf, the city’s first marijuana dispensary. The business is majority women-led.
Johnson secures $150K in funding for Growing Healthy Veterans

NORTH CHICAGO – Growing Healthy Veterans, an organization in North Chicago dedicated to healing veterans through horticulture and providing healthy food for the community, received $150,000 to expand operations, thanks to state Sen. Adriane Johnson. “This organization directly supports veterans in the Lake County community combat post-war trauma,” Johnson, D-Buffalo Grove, said in a news release.

Thanksgiving has been an official holiday in the U.S. since 1863, and the people of Joliet have found ways to celebrate the occasion ever since. Some of those long-ago Thanksgivings reflect the past and future – and somewhat resemble modern celebrations. There was much to be thankful for in Joliet in 1909, and a lot was going on. Movie theaters are busy places today on Thanksgiving, but in 1909, motion pictures were just catching on.

To the Editor:Senior Services Associates of Kendall County would like to thank the Knights & Lady Knights of Columbus God’s Divine Mercy Council 14463. These men and women worked hard to feed over 150 seniors on Tuesday, Nov. 14. They prepared a delicious traditional Thanksgiving feast including turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and potatoes. Cedarhurst Assisted Living in Yorkville generously donated pie for dessert. The day was a big success with free Bingo finishing out the event.

DeKALB – The DeKalb community might see a familiar face Thursday as folks tune in to watch the 95th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. Michael Embrey, retired Northern Illinois band director, veteran and DeKalb resident, will march with the All-American Band Directors Marching Band, a part of Saluting America’s Band Directors, a national group comprised of band directors who volunteer to help promote the power of music through events.

The Algonquin Police Department made two impaired driving arrests and issued 37 seat belt and child safety seat violations during its recent Halloween enforcement effort, according to a news release. Additionally, 22 speeding citations, one distracted driving citation, two traffic arrests, one felony arrest and 28 “other” citations were issued. Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois participated in this effort to get impaired drivers off the roads and more people buckled up.

The Crystal Lake City Council on Tuesday approved without objection a preliminary plan for the development. The approval allows developers to move forward and create a more detailed final plan to present to the council.
