INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Gov. Mike Braun said state lawmakers should take a deeper look at how the state carries out executions. The governor’s comments came Tuesday, 12 days after Indiana executed Benjamin Ritchie for killing Beech Grove police officer William Toney in 2000. It was the state’s second execution in six months and the first under Braun. Prior to the December 2024 execution of Joseph Corcoran for a 1997 quadruple homicide, Indiana had not executed anyone since 2009.
